The Soundlab was developed in August of 1993 as part of a research residency at the STEIM institute in Amsterdam, Holland. The project involved developing the hardware, DSP and controller code for the a "Wearable" Computer Music System based on the Siemen 80C535 microcontroller running the New Micros 8051 Forth, and Motorola 56004 DSP. This system was demonstrated at CNMAT and CCRMA in California, and in a Poster Session at the 1994 International Computer Music Conference in Aarhus, Denmark.
